Eldridge Street is known as “Fishball Alley” by Fujianese immigrants, for the large number of fishball restaurants and producers here. Eat a bowl of fishball soup for just a few bucks, or buy a bag of frozen fishballs to go. Also notable are the 19th-century firehouse turned Buddhist Temple at 20 Eldridge; and the historic Eldridge Street Synagogue at 12 Eldridge — a reminder of an earlier time when Eldridge was known primarily as a Jewish immigrant neighborhood.
