Sweet Treats

Chinatown has lots of great dessert spots, from ice cream by the scoop shops; to newer, trendier storefronts offering “rolled” ice cream, shaved ice, or egg waffles with or without ice cream; to bubble tea shops galore. Dim sum spots, cafes, and teahouses usually include sweets on their menus as well, and bakeries are another great spot to try things like egg tarts, steamed green tea cakes, or red bean buns. When it comes to baked goods in particular, sweet tooths should be aware that Chinese desserts tend to be less sweet than Western candy, cookies, and cakes. That said, many would argue that their subtler flavors make them even more delicious.
